About the role
Forter is looking for a Senior II Back-End Engineer to help build the systems at the heart of our Chargeback & Disputes Management product - one of Forter's standout market offerings.
Chargebacks are meant to protect consumers, letting people reclaim funds for fraudulent charges or disputed purchases. But the same mechanism is routinely exploited by bad actors, draining revenue from the businesses behind the products people love. Our Disputes team fights back, building the technology that recovers that revenue and protects our customers' growth at scale.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You'll design and own resilient backend services that ingest chargeback data from dozens of payment providers, automate dispute submission, and keep it all accurate under heavy throughput. You'll work closely with product, partnerships, and engineers across the company to take complex problems from idea to production.
If you're driven by ownership, energized by hard technical problems, and want your work to have a direct, measurable impact, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing:
- Develop a fully automated disputes orchestration platform to prevent, deflect, and recover chargebacks to reduce revenue loss. The system will support generating millions of dollars in yearly revenue, remove friction, and streamline obsolete operational processes.
- Build and maintain a high-performing, scalable chargeback management system handling tens of thousands of requests daily, originating from various input sources and reporting at changing rates.
- Design and build agentic workflows that translate requirements into user-friendly experiences, partnering closely with product management to turn needs into solutions that drive adoption and improve efficiency.
What you'll need:
-
- 8+ years of experience building and maintaining complex backend systems using modern programming languages, preferably with TypeScript experience.
- Passionate and experienced at overseeing a product’s entire lifecycle.
- Experienced designing and working with large-scale distributed systems.
- Strive to uphold top-notch software engineering practices such as high-quality code, thorough testing.
- Agile mindset and DevOps mentality.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with AWS or other public clouds.
- Significant experience with various data stores and pipelines such as Kafka, Redis, ElasticSearch, Containers and MySQL.
