Senior Front-End
Software Engineer
We're looking for a Senior Front-End Software Engineer to join our engineering team — helping build the technology behind apps used by 30M+ people every month across Health, Wellness, and Music.
The Role
This role goes beyond feature delivery. As a Senior Engineer, you'll influence technical direction, raise engineering standards, and help teams make better long-term decisions around performance, quality, and maintainability.
You'll act as a technical mentor for our wider front-end community and a key partner to our Design, Product, and Content teams — working on our MACH-based platform (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-Native, Headless), built entirely in-house.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive front-end architecture decisions – including component design, state management, and application structure across the platform
- Lead complex implementations – design and deliver front-end solutions using React, NextJS, and TypeScript at scale
- Shape shared design systems – contribute to and influence front-end standards used across our app portfolio
- Mentor and elevate engineers – provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and pairing
- Partner cross-functionally – act as senior technical partner to Product, Design, and Content teams from discovery through to delivery
- Own critical user journeys – ensure high standards of usability, accessibility, performance, and resilience across our apps
- Build and evolve APIs – consume and contribute to GraphQL and REST APIs; contribute to Node.js backend services where required
- Champion engineering best practices – code quality, testing strategy, performance optimisation, and security
- Stay ahead of the curve – attend conferences, bring new ideas back, and apply front-end trends pragmatically
- Identify and resolve risk – proactively surface technical constraints and opportunities across CI/CD, developer experience, and delivery flow
Qualifications
Essential
- Significant commercial experience as a Senior Front-End or Full-Stack Engineer in large-scale production environments
- Expert knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript
- Deep experience with React and NextJS (or equivalent modern front-end frameworks)
- Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility (WCAG), and responsive design
- Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and supporting their technical growth
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with Design, Product, and Content teams
- Experience working across the full software development lifecycle including testing, CI/CD, and automation
Desirable
- Experience working in MACH / composable architectures
- Knowledge of Core Web Vitals and front-end performance monitoring
- Familiarity with AWS or GCP and Infrastructure as Code
- Event-driven or distributed system exposure
- A strong DevOps mindset and comfort working in containerised environments
