Mechanical and Electrical Engineer

 

The Mechanical and Electrical Engineer will work with members of the design and project teams to create mechanical systems(components) and outline electrical schematics for power conversion products using Solidworks and AUTOCAD. 

 

The M&E Engineer will develop new products within the Company and support existing designs.  The position will be located in Columbus, OH and will play an important role in developing new products and value analysis and value engineering activities.

 

Qualifications:

 

The candidate must possess both mechanical and electrical aptitude to develop new products and create new assembly processes.  

 

The candidate must be able to interpret electrical system schematics must; familiarity with power conversion systems is desirable. Knowledge or familiarity with electromagnetic interference (EMI) methods is a plus.

 

Knowledge of manufacturing materials and the production of sheet metal and machining methods are required attributes.  Familiarity of thermal design, heat flow and structural analysis is desired but not mandatory.

 

Strong 3D CAD skills with Solid Works is necessary and an ability to complete high level interconnect schematics using AUTOCAD is a must.

 

 

Experience:

 

The Mechanical and Electrical Engineer should have a minimum of 7 years design experience with electromechanical packaging including enclosures, sheet metal and manufacturing techniques, preferably with a company manufacturing power conversion systems.

 

Alternatively, an exceptional talent for Mechanical and Electrical design with less experience will be considered. 

 

In addition, a working knowledge of electrical interconnect technologies including cable and harness, connectors, power distribution and signal interconnects would be considered most favorably.

 

 

Education:

 

BS in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized, fully accredited program with a minor in Electrical Engineering. BS in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized, fully accredited program with a minor in Electrical Engineering. Alternatively, better than a working knowledge and solid/proven experience working in electrical power conversion will be considered in lieu of an Electrical Engineering degree.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

The M&E Engineer is specifically responsible and accountable the following areas:

 

  • Design mechanical components and systems for power conversion products. Support the product line from concept to production.

  • Verifies that the design conforms to safety practices and customer specifications.

  • Supervises the construction and testing of prototypes

  • Analyzes methods and suppliers for cost reductions on assemblies and equipment

  • Estimates costs for designed products

  • Collaborates with other team members to obtain timely results

  • Documents designs so they can be adequately manufactured within the time and budget targets

  • Continuously improves product quality and process effectiveness.

  • Work with Sales and Service personnel to ensure products conform to customer requirements.
