SGS Bateman is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical Estimating and Cost Control Trainee to join our growing team in Greenstone, South Africa. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for recent graduates who hold a Degree in Quantity Surveying and are looking to gain practical experience in project estimating, budgeting, cost management, and project controls within an engineering and construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior estimators and cost control professionals in developing and implementing estimating and cost control strategies tailored to specific project and client requirements.
- Support the preparation of project cost estimates, budgets, cash flow forecasts, and cost reports.
- Help monitor project costs and identify cost variances, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quantity take-offs and the measurement of materials, labour, and equipment requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of cost databases and estimating records.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure project objectives are achieved within budget and schedule requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, cost analyses, and project documentation.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance estimating, cost control, and project management knowledge and skills.
- Assist in the implementation of quality assurance processes and company safety standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating and project controls functions.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying.
Be a South African citizen (be able to produce a valid South African ID document)
Be between the ages of 18-30
Must be currently unemployed
Minimum Requirements
- Recent graduate or up to one year of relevant experience.
- Basic understanding of estimating, cost control, budgeting, and project management principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Willingness to learn and develop within a professional engineering and construction environment.
