The Customer Quality Engineer is part of the indie Quality team and serves as a key customer-facing technical interface for issue investigation, containment, and resolution. The role supports customers during engineering bring-up, production ramp, 0km, factory, and warranty-related issues, with strong interaction across Applications Engineering, Firmware, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Failure Analysis, and Quality.
The role is responsible for improving the customer quality experience by combining technical debugging capabilities with structured quality problem-solving methods, including containment, failure analysis coordination, 8D reporting, PPAP support, and customer quality requirement management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite and remote technical support to customers during the investigation of engineering, factory, 0km, and warranty failures.
- Support first-level technical debugging of customer issues, including system/application behavior, firmware configuration, register settings, test conditions, logs, and customer use cases.
- Work closely with Applications Engineering, Firmware, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Design, Failure Analysis, and suppliers to reproduce failures, localize issues, define containment actions, and drive corrective actions.
- Lead customer issue resolution activities using structured problem-solving methods, including 8D, root cause analysis, containment planning, corrective action tracking, and effectiveness verification.
- Support Failure Analysis (FA) activities by providing customer context, aligning priorities with FA and Engineering teams, and helping document customer-relevant conclusions.
- Assist Engineering teams in defining customer containment tests, screening methods, and debugging procedures.
- Prepare clear technical and quality updates for customers, including failure status, containment actions, root cause progress, and 8D reports.
- Drive customer PPAP submissions and approval activities.
- Support the review, alignment, and acceptance of customer-specific quality requirements.
- Support customer scorecards, customer satisfaction reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Main Requirements:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the semiconductor or automotive electronics industry supporting technical products.
- Good written and spoken English is required.
- Experience in customer-facing technical support, Applications Engineering, Firmware support, Quality Engineering, or Failure Analysis is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience debugging semiconductor products at the board, system, application, or firmware level.
- Ability to understand firmware-controlled device behavior, configuration flows, register settings, logs, and system-level failure symptoms is a plus.
- Experience with 8D, root cause analysis, containment, corrective actions, and quality problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience with automotive customer expectations, including 0km/factory failures, warranty returns, PPAP, and customer quality reporting.
- BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to customers and internal teams.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and effectively leverage internal resources to resolve customer issues.
- Experience interfacing directly with customers is required.
